Nissan is wanting for enthusiast cred right now. The GT-R and the 370Z are getting old, and the turbocharged Juke NISMO crossover isn’t quite enough to carry the sport-compact mantle all by itself. A new Sentra NISMO could bathe itself in some of the same glory as the 1990s Sentra SE-R, as well as inject some spice back into Nissan’s mostly bland lineup. It also would give Nissan a competitor to cars like the Volkswagen GTI, the Honda Civic Si, Ford’s Fiesta ST and Focus ST, and the Subaru WRX. Although our experiences with the regular Sentra indicate that the NISMO will need to step it up quite a bit to be considered in the same league as those formidable entries.
